3. Mike Dillard’s magic pixie dust… Thanksgiving Special

Here’s a great use of humor and seasonality that really drives clicks – I opened to see exactly what the promotion was, and it was for a copywriting product of Mike Dillard’s.

I didnt know about this discount, and it really captured my attention. Great job!

4. Fre.e Content For Your Blog, Website, and Ebooks

Remember that I told you the best way to reach ViralUrl users is with training that can help them in their own businesses?

This headline does exactly what I meant: it’s giving me free content, ready to go on to my blogs or whatever.

Excellent way to capture an opening!

5. Where will YOU be in 5 Years from Now?

Usually, emotional headlines work very well. This one has some grammatical errors, and the confusing CapItal letters kind of ruin it, but it still has a lot of punch.

Addressing a prospects’ fear is just as effective as addressing a possible benefit – sometimes even more – and it’s a great copywriting trick.

If you look over your spam box at anytime, you’ll see the funniest and weirdest collection of email subject lines. Everybody knows that people that send spam are usually not nobel-level writers. Sometimes, they barely know English.

Unfortunately, some of those people end up using ViralUrl – and as you can imagine, their results are worst than the results of a George W. Bush “improv” speech.

I’ve written before about a quick ViralUrl checklist to prevent your emails from ending up here, but people just dont seem to get it.

This person can’t even get the headline straight – and why would I open an email with this subject line?

But he managed to do worse on the email body. My comments are marked () below:

Now, of course, if you use the same shortened url on your twitter, on your blog, and on ViralUrl, your data has a lot of space to get lost and your data will be corrupted. So dont do it!

Create unique urls for your viral blasts – you can keep the same one for every message, but sometimes people open their emails more than 72 hours later, so you have a change of getting your data messed up if they take too long to open.

Of course, if you’re looking to purchase a list-builder account like ViralUrl, you’ve already done some research. You know who the top players are and luckily, you know what they offer in terms of response.

WRONG!

You dont have any way of knowing what their response is – none of them offer tracking capabilities. Not even ViraUrl system mailer offers any data related to your submissions.

But you can use other people’s results as data, right?

As arguable as that is, it seems like the best way to get an idea of what these services offer. So to help you out in this tough research, here is the data I’ve collected over the past 6 months:

ViralUrl	By far the most effective system, VU charges $197 per YEAR to mail 3000 members every 3 days. Their system has the lowest spam blockage of all list builders I’ve tried, and I’m currently experiencing a 7-12% clickthrough with VU.
Downline Builders Direct	$197 Yearly or $77 Monthly to mail 20,000 every 3 days. This one is newer, but has cool features: You’re allowed to mail 500 members with a free membership. And a paid membership lets you mail to a full 20,000 members every 3 days!
List Bandit	$197 Yearly to mail 3000 random members, plus a unique number of bonus members, every 3 days. Also special advertising to members within the site that enables you to plug subscribers straight into your autoresponder
List Auction	$197 to mail to 3000 every three days.
List Joe	$197 to mail 3000 members. Has a big name in the industry, but lots of bad reviews.

As you can see, I haven’t done very specific data-gathering, but I’ve researched all of those and I still use some of their free services.

My point is very simple – ViralUrl is by far the most complete, and most professional one. All of the other services have extremely high rates of SPAM blockage. (and they dont offer free affiliate link cloaking )

Dont let your ViralUrl blast blow on your face

Have you received ViralUrl emails that started with a weird tag like this one?

Yeah, that is very amateurish. And yes, it drops your open rates to ridiculous numbers.

But that’s only one of the reasons to be extra careful when blasting ViralUrl. To protect your investment, follow these quick tips:

1. Dont Use NAME TAGS.

Using people’s first names is a bit too personal for a ViralUrl email. Save it for when they join your own list.

And there’s no evidence that using their names will increase your open rates, so stay on the safe side.

2. If you’re using Name Tags, make sure they’re correct:

The right way to use the name field for ViralUrl messages is : {firstname}

Pay attention!

3. Double check all of your links

Guys, you only got one chance to make that email count – so make sure you got the right link! Some promotions will die after 72 hours (when you can send another viralurl blast) so try them all before pushing send.

Sometimes it’s tempting to use url shorteners to mask your affiliate links, but the resulting url is really easy to mess up.

4. Read your email 3 times before sending

Seriously – make sure everything makes sense, spelling is correct, and that your message is compelling enough to drive anybody to click.

5. MAIL OFTEN!

You get 10 mailings a month – USE THEM ALL!

With this quick checklist, you’ll screw much less on your blasts, so focus on being a steady mailer.
